Agility Opens 60,000-Sq-Ft Fremont Facility as Physical AI Hub

Agility, the humanoid robotics company behind the Digit robot, opened a 60,000-square-foot facility in Fremont, California, on July 16, 2026, to serve as its dedicated software and Physical AI development hub1.

The site will house engineering teams focused on training, testing, and advancing the AI systems that enable Digit to learn new skills and execute more complex tasks in commercial customer environments. Agility said it plans to hire nearly 200 professionals across AI/ML software engineering, AI/ML research, and field operations at the new location.

The Fremont facility complements Agility's existing RoboFab manufacturing operations in Salem, Oregon, establishing a two-site footprint that separates hardware production from AI capability development. Agility described the Bay Area location as positioning the company inside one of the world's leading AI talent and innovation ecosystems.

Agility disclosed that it has secured more than $300 million in multi-year orders for Digit v5, subject to the realization of certain contractual milestones. The company cited active humanoid deployments with Schaeffler, GXO, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, and Mercado Libre, and said it has a growing pipeline of over 30 customers.

The facility expansion comes as Agility prepares for a planned public listing through a business combination with Churchill Capital Corp XI. Agility said the transaction would make it the first publicly listed U.S. pure-play humanoid robotics company. Churchill XI filed its final prospectus related to its initial public offering with the SEC on December 16, 2025, and intends to file a registration statement on Form S-4 with the SEC. The proposed transaction will be submitted to Churchill XI shareholders for their consideration.

ANALYSIS The Fremont opening signals a deliberate separation of AI software development from hardware manufacturing — a structure that could allow Agility to iterate on Digit's learned capabilities independently of production cycles. Pairing the facility announcement with disclosure of $300 million-plus in milestone-contingent orders and a public-listing timeline provides a commercial and financial frame ahead of the SPAC shareholder vote.
