Einride, EASE Logistics run cabless Level 4 electric trucks daily on Ohio public roads

Einride and EASE Logistics are operating two cabless SAE Level 4 autonomous electric trucks on daily freight routes on public roads in Marysville, Ohio.

Two cabless SAE Level 4 autonomous electric trucks are now running scheduled daily freight routes on public roads in Marysville, Ohio, the companies announced Monday, according to Peak of Ohio1. Einride and EASE Logistics said the trucks carry freight between EASE Logistics facilities, operating on both company property and local public roads as part of the Ohio-Indiana Truck Automation Corridor Project.

The vehicles operate without anyone inside; a remote operator monitors each truck from off-site and can intervene if needed, the report said.

Corridor project and data collection

The Ohio-Indiana Truck Automation Corridor Project is an $8.8 million, multi-year initiative launched in 2021 by the Ohio Department of Transportation, DriveOhio, and the Indiana Department of Transportation, Peak of Ohio reported. The project focuses on major state routes in Ohio and Indiana where different levels of truck automation are being tested.

The Marysville deployment began collecting data last month on safety, reliability, and efficiency, according to the report. Einride and EASE Logistics plan to track miles driven, loads moved, and vehicle uptime as the trucks operate. That data will help the companies determine how autonomous freight operations could expand, the report said.

"This deployment reflects the maturity of our purpose-built autonomous stack, combining driverless operation with remote oversight to run safely in real-world operations. Daily operations in Marysville give us the proof points we need to keep expanding autonomous freight across the corridor and beyond," said Henrik Green, CTO at Einride.

The deployment is EASE Logistics' third autonomous trucking project with DriveOhio, according to Peak of Ohio.

Einride's expanding footprint

The Ohio deployment follows Einride's launch of what it described as the first cabless SAE Level 4 autonomous truck in daily commercial service on a German public road, a partnership with Lidl that began on September 15[2]. Einride also recently struck a platform-wide collaboration with Nvidia spanning compute, sensors, simulation, safety, and cloud training infrastructure[1].

ANALYSIS The Marysville operation marks a second geography where Einride is running cabless Level 4 trucks on public roads in daily freight service, following the German deployment with Lidl less than two weeks earlier. The pace suggests the company is using parallel deployments across regulatory environments to accumulate operational data simultaneously rather than sequentially.

Einride was founded in Stockholm in 2016 and develops autonomous and electric freight technology, Peak of Ohio reported. EASE Logistics is a privately held logistics company based in Columbus, founded in 2014, that provides transportation, logistics, and warehousing services, according to the report.
