The European Commission published the reference to EN 18286:2026, the first harmonised standard supporting the EU AI Act, in the Official Journal of the European Union1. Issued via Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2274, the standard grants providers of high-risk AI systems a presumption of conformity with Article 17 quality management system requirements. Developed by CEN and CENELEC, EN 18286 is built around the AI system lifecycle and designed to layer on top of existing standards such as ISO/IEC 42001 and ISO 9001 rather than replace them.
