Five Hyundai Motor Group affiliates have committed to building and operating an AI data center at Saemangeum in North Jeolla province, South Korea, targeting construction from March 2027 and operation in early 20302.
The affiliates are Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and Hyundai AutoEver, according to The Elec, which reported the final decision on October 30. The facility will sit within a broader energy and robotics megaproject campus and offer GPU services1.
The data center is part of a KRW 9 trillion AI Valley investment plan for Saemangeum. The roughly three-year span from groundbreaking to operation places the facility's go-live in early 2030.
ANALYSIS The project marks Hyundai Motor Group's entry into commercial GPU-as-a-service infrastructure, extending the automaker's footprint beyond vehicle manufacturing and mobility into compute provision.
