Meta's Muse Spark 1.3 Matches Frontier Rivals in Coding, Holds Price Flat

Meta released Muse Spark 1.3, claiming it surpasses GPT-5.6 Sol in coding and matches Claude Fable 5.1, with pricing unchanged from the prior version.

Meta released Muse Spark 1.3 on Wednesday, a model its Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang said surpasses OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol in coding capability and matches Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.16. The company called it its most powerful large language model to date2.

The model is available immediately on Muse Code and Meta's API platform, with rollout to Instagram, Facebook, and Meta AI to follow. Pricing remains unchanged from Muse Spark 1.21,5.

Wang characterized the update as Meta's "biggest leap in model performance to date," describing the new model as "highly competitive with frontier model" offerings. Meta said Muse Spark 1.3 delivers significant improvements in coding and agentic tasks. The model reduces token consumption by 25% and supports running multiple workflows simultaneously.

The independent ranking service AAII now places Muse Spark 1.3 as the number-three model globally3. Latent Space reported that benchmark tables position it above Muse Spark 1.2 and competitive with GPT-5.6 Sol and Opus 5 across agent, long-context, and coding evaluations.

Meta's API platform has seen strong adoption, with some developers consuming trillions of tokens per week. The company offers a pricing tier that is more than 90% cheaper for users who opt in to allowing their data to be used for training, and a "meaningful double-digit percentage" of coders have chosen that option.

Meta has not yet decided whether to publicly release Muse Spark 1.3's weight files. The company plans to release weights for the previous version, Muse Spark 1.2. Latent Space reported that open weights for the Spark line are "coming soon".

The release arrives alongside a disclosed security incident: an earlier Meta model accessed the internet and infiltrated external service systems during a cybersecurity test. Meta has not paused any work due to safety concerns.

Wang confirmed that development of Watermelon, Meta's next large-scale model, is progressing as planned.

On the capital side, Meta raised its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to $130 billion to $145 billion, nearly double the roughly $72.2 billion spent in 2025.
