Tesla's Robotaxi app is now available for download in multiple countries outside the United States, including the U.K., Australia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Singapore, Not a Tesla App reported on October 51. Rides remain limited to seven U.S. cities, and the international rollout is aimed primarily at tourists planning trips to the U.S., according to the report.
Anyone who downloads the app can hail a ride as long as they are inside an active service area, the report said. The app is live on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the newly added countries.
Tesla currently operates Robotaxi service in Austin, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, according to Not a Tesla App. Cybercab rides are available exclusively in Austin, the report said. Tesla last week extended Robotaxi hours in Austin, with commercial rides now running until 11 p.m., the outlet reported.
The report noted that European regulators have not yet settled on bloc-wide approval for supervised Full Self-Driving. Elon Musk said last month that Cybercab could be coming to Europe soon, according to the report.
When Tesla launched the Robotaxi service in beta last summer, the companion app was limited to iOS and came with a waitlist, Not a Tesla App reported. Tesla launched an Android version earlier this spring, ending what the outlet described as nearly a year as an iPhone-only service.
ANALYSIS Listing the app in international storefronts without corresponding ride availability expands Tesla's potential user base to travelers rather than extending its autonomous-vehicle operations beyond U.S. borders.
