Valar Atomics has raised $1 billion in Series B equity funding led by Sequoia Capital, valuing the nuclear startup at $6 billion — triple the $2 billion valuation it carried after a $450 million round in April 20262. The company also secured a $200 million credit facility led by Erebor Bank, with J.P. Morgan, Crescent Cove, and Hercules Capital participating, bringing total new financing to $1.2 billion.
Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire joined Valar Atomics' board1. Additional investors in the equity round include Apandion, Atreides Management, Conviction, Dream Ventures, HOF Capital, Point72, Riot Ventures, Snowpoint Ventures, and Valor Equity Partners.
The round follows a sequence of technical milestones. On June 18, Valar Atomics' Ward 250 reactor reached self-sustaining criticality. A week later, the reactor generated electricity to power an NVIDIA Blackwell chip in a live demonstration — described by the company as the first time an advanced reactor has directly powered AI infrastructure. Valar Atomics also announced a deal with NVIDIA to develop a waterless 30MW AI factory.
Valar Atomics builds small, high-temperature gas-cooled reactors designed for factory production rather than custom construction. The company said it took two years to complete its NOVA core and seven months to bring the Ward 250 to criticality, and that development cycles will shorten as more reactors are built. Founder and CEO Isaiah Taylor said in a video interview that the funding provides "the firepower that we need to go build the Giga sites" and that the company aims to accelerate from building one reactor per year to one per month and faster4.
The new capital is intended to scale manufacturing capacity, expand fuel production capabilities, and transition from demonstration prototypes to fleets of reactors targeting AI infrastructure and heavy industrial applications. Valar Atomics is building its own fuel supply rather than relying on outside vendors. The company was also selected for U.S. Department of Energy pilot initiatives aimed at advancing reactor deployment and commercial supply chains for high-assay low-enriched uranium fuel.
Valar Atomics previously raised $130 million in November 2025 led by Snowpoint Ventures. Earlier backers include Palmer Luckey, Shyam Sankar, and John Donovan. Within its first few years, the company developed its Ward Zero prototype and achieved cold criticality in testing of its NOVA reactor core in coordination with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The $1 billion raise is larger than the combined funding amounts of nuclear peers Antares ($470 million for reactors intended for military bases), X-energy ($1 billion through its IPO), and Last Energy ($100 million for reactors pitched at data centers).
Vector Wire previously covered this round on August 4 ctx. The deal also intersects with ongoing scrutiny of NVIDIA's expanding AI infrastructure partnerships, which reportedly exceed $750 billion in pipeline value and have drawn questions about circular financing dynamics ctx.
ANALYSIS The valuation tripling in roughly four months — from $2 billion in April to $6 billion — reflects the premium investors are placing on startups that can credibly link nuclear energy production to AI compute demand. Valar Atomics' strategy of vertically integrating fuel production and reactor manufacturing, combined with a direct demonstration powering NVIDIA hardware, differentiates it from competitors pursuing more conventional deployment paths.
