Zephon Replaces TorchTitan Data Loader, Cuts GPU-Count Score Variance from 0.82 to 0.05 Points

PyTorch's Zephon data-loading system now integrates with TorchTitan, replacing its default data loader with a pipeline that tokenizes, packs, shuffles, and mixes data inside the training job rather than requiring offline preprocessing1. In elasticity tests, a 1B-parameter model trained on 16 GPUs and resumed on 8, 32, and 64 GPUs produced identical global batches by SHA-256 hash. Evaluation-score spread across GPU counts dropped from 0.82 to 0.05 points on DCLM Core v1 and from 0.64 to 0.011 points on FineWeb. On Python 3.14t, Zephon's thread-based runner fetched vision-language samples approximately 3.7x faster than its process runner on standard Python.
