Zhongji Innolight, the world's largest provider of optical interconnect solutions by revenue, fell on its first day of trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange after raising HK$53.4 billion ($6.8 billion) in an initial public offering2.

The Chinese optical transceiver maker priced its IPO at HK$980 per share, below the maximum indicated price of HK$1,010. Shares fell 5% on Thursday, according to CNBC. A Financial Times headline described the decline as 10%1, while a separate Financial Times headline put the drop at 2%; the discrepancy may reflect different points during the trading session.

The listing was Asia's second-largest this year, behind Chinese memory-chip maker CXMT's $8.6 billion Shanghai listing.

Zhongji Innolight, which is also listed in Shenzhen, supplies components used in artificial intelligence data centers, cloud computing, and high-speed networking. The company accounted for 21.2% of the global optical interconnect solutions market in 2025, according to consultancy CIC as cited in its prospectus.

Demand for the offering was robust. The Hong Kong tranche drew orders for roughly 16.8 times the shares available to retail investors, while the international tranche was 9.7 times oversubscribed.

Zhongji Innolight plans to use the IPO proceeds for research and development, overseas production capacity expansion, supply chain strengthening, and potential acquisitions.

ANALYSIS The listing underscores the capital markets appetite for AI infrastructure suppliers, even as the stock's first-day decline signals that investors may have already priced in much of the company's growth trajectory through its Shenzhen listing. As the dominant global supplier of optical interconnect solutions — the high-speed links that connect GPUs and servers inside AI data centers — Zhongji Innolight sits at a critical chokepoint in the AI hardware stack, making its plans for overseas production expansion and R&D investment directly relevant to the buildout of AI compute capacity worldwide.
