Apollo Hospitals deploys Intuitive's da Vinci 5 surgical robot in Bengaluru

Apollo Hospitals' Bannerghatta Road facility in Bengaluru has become among the first hospitals in India to put Intuitive's da Vinci 5 robotic-assisted surgical system into clinical use, the hospital group said on October 23, 20261,2.

The system is already operating across five specialties: cardiac surgery, oncology surgery, gynaecological surgery, gastrointestinal surgery and urology.

The headline feature is Force Feedback technology, which, when paired with compatible instruments, lets surgeons sense the pressure being applied to tissues during a procedure. The capability adds a tactile dimension to the magnified 3D visual feed the surgeon already receives through the console, providing greater awareness when handling delicate tissue. The system also supports in-procedure surgical video review.

The surgeon remains in full control throughout; the robotic platform assists but does not operate independently.

ANALYSIS The deployment is narrowly an AI-adjacent robotics story rather than a pure AI development: the da Vinci 5 is a surgeon-controlled robotic platform whose primary advances center on haptic feedback and imaging rather than autonomous decision-making. Its relevance to the AI-industry audience lies in the expanding installed base for sensor-rich surgical robots, which generate the procedural data that downstream machine-learning research in surgical AI depends on.
