Zoox launched a paid, fully driverless ride-hailing service in Las Vegas in September last year, using purpose-built vehicles without steering wheels or pedals7,5. The camera modules are 5-megapixel high-resolution units that draw on LG Innotek's precision optical design technology, originally developed for smartphone cameras. Each Zoox robotaxi carries more than twice as many cameras as a conventional vehicle, with five different fields of view depending on mounting position, enabling 360-degree coverage14. The modules are waterproof and rated for wide temperature fluctuations.
LG Innotek described the Zoox agreement as "a springboard to expand beyond its smartphone-centric business into physical AI sectors including autonomous driving and robotics" and has set a target of 2 trillion won (approximately $1.5 billion) in vehicle sensing solution revenue by 2030. ANALYSIS The company is not merely selling commodity parts; it is channeling optical engineering expertise built in the smartphone camera market into a new vertical, with an explicit revenue target attached.
"LG Innotek's camera modules are currently being assembled onto Zoox robotaxis, positioning LG Innotek as a key supplier of core perception hardware as the autonomous vehicle industry prepares for rapid growth over the next decade," the company said.
Counterpoint Research projects that the global robotaxi fleet will reach 3.6 million vehicles by 2035. Counterpoint Research also projects that the robotaxi service market will reach $168 billion by 2035. ANALYSIS A market of that scale cannot be served by vertically integrated hardware stacks alone; it requires the kind of supplier diversification now taking shape between LG Innotek and Zoox.
LG Innotek is also developing autonomous driving sensing components including LiDAR and radar as part of an integrated development effort. At CES 2026, LG Innotek unveiled a heating camera that melts snow and ice, a cleaning camera that removes moisture and debris within one second, and LiDAR capable of detecting objects up to 200 meters away. This year, LG Innotek formed a strategic partnership with Applied Intuition and signed a memorandum of understanding with Kakao Mobility to cooperate on autonomous driving solution development12. LG Innotek is also expected to begin producing camera modules for Tesla's autonomous Cybercab robotaxi later this year.
LG Innotek's mobility solutions business posted Q2 revenue of 510.9 billion won, up 10% year-over-year. Last year, LG Innotek's new orders for mobility solutions reached 4.8 trillion won, and its year-end order backlog reached 19.2 trillion won. LG Innotek's vehicle camera revenue increased for two consecutive quarters in Q1 and Q2 this year.
ANALYSIS The financial trajectory reinforces the strategic pivot: rising vehicle camera revenue and a growing order backlog suggest that LG Innotek's bet on autonomous driving sensing is already generating commercial traction, even before the Zoox supply ramp reaches full scale.
Zoox's Hayward facility is ramping toward its capacity of more than 10,000 robotaxis per year. LG Innotek's multiyear supply agreement ties its revenue trajectory directly to that ramp. Zoox began offering paid robotaxi services to the general public in Las Vegas on August 10.
