Meta absorbs Conductor, shuts down coding-agent cloud by November 20

Conductor Cloud shuts down November 20, 2026; local Mac app winds down early 2027.

Meta has acquired Conductor, a Y Combinator-backed startup whose Mac app lets developers run multiple AI coding agents in parallel, with the team joining Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL)2. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal was first reported by Axios on November 4, 2026.

Conductor will shut down Conductor Cloud on November 20, 2026, and will begin winding down its local Mac app in early 20271. New sign-ups and app downloads stopped on November 4.

What Conductor built

Founded in 2024 in San Francisco, Conductor participated in Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch. The company launched its product in July 2025. The app creates isolated copies of a codebase, runs a separate agent in each copy, and lets developers review changes, create pull requests, and merge the results. It does not ship its own model; instead it orchestrates third-party agents including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode.

Conductor's team is led by CEO Charlie Holtz and CTO Jackson de Campos. Holtz confirmed the deal on X, stating the team will work with Nat Friedman and Alexandr Wang at MSL on what he called the next interface for AI coding. He added that MSL has, in his words, the highest talent density of all the labs.

Wind-down timeline

Conductor Cloud workspaces become read-only on November 13, 2026, at which point active subscribers will receive refunds. On November 20, the cloud service shuts down entirely and Conductor begins deleting cloud user data. The local Mac app will continue receiving new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when support ends. Holtz said the team hopes to have something new for users early in 2027 but offered no further description of that work. Existing Pro users retain Pro features at no charge through the wind-down, though existing free users cannot upgrade. Conductor says it has never sold or trained on user data and will delete all of it when the app shuts down.

The acquisition lands on the same day OpenAI disclosed its acquisition of Pierre Computer, a developer-tools startup whose code-storage technology is embedded in Codex[1].

ANALYSIS The two deals on the same date put Meta and OpenAI on parallel acquisition tracks in the AI coding-tools layer, each absorbing a small startup whose technology feeds directly into its respective coding infrastructure. Meta also recently raised more than $20 billion in cross-border bond offerings, a fundraise the company has tied to AI capital expenditure[2].
