OpenAI fills year-long vacancy, hires Uber's Hazelbaker as corporate affairs chief

Hazelbaker reports to Greg Brockman, starts early December.

OpenAI has hired Jill Hazelbaker, Uber Technologies' president and chief corporate affairs officer, to serve as its new chief corporate affairs officer, filling a position that had been vacant for nearly a year1,2.

Hazelbaker will report directly to OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman and is scheduled to start in early December. Her core mission will be to deepen public understanding of artificial intelligence and strengthen public trust in OpenAI's mission.

The hire comes as OpenAI navigates what SRC-002 describes as a complex global political environment while moving toward an initial public offering. Hazelbaker will work closely with the company's leadership to address regulatory and public-opinion challenges both domestically and internationally.

ANALYSIS The appointment places an executive who held the top corporate-affairs and presidential role at Uber into a position where OpenAI faces its own expanding set of government and public scrutiny.

OpenAI disclosed separately on November 3 that ChatGPT now processes search queries equal to 20 percent of Google's volume[3].

ANALYSIS Hazelbaker's arrival coincides with a period of rapid commercial expansion that raises the stakes for the company's policy and communications functions.
