Zoox has leased two industrial buildings at 25500 Clawiter Road in Hayward, California, spanning more than 350,000 square feet, more than doubling the Amazon-owned robotaxi company's space near its production facility2. PGIM owns the two adjacent warehouses, which sit near Zoox's factory at 25810 Clawiter Road.
The lease is part of Zoox's effort to scale up production as it transports passengers in San Francisco and Las Vegas.
Zoox already operates a 220,000-square-foot production facility at 25810 Clawiter Road, part of Hines' Exchange @ 92 industrial campus, which opened last June. The company also leases a 34,000-square-foot logistics and staging facility at 25555 Clawiter Road, secured earlier this year.
Zoox is headquartered in Foster City, where it expanded with roughly 200,000 square feet of office, research, and development space last year.
Beyond production infrastructure, Zoox earlier this year opened a customer lounge at 301 Sutter Street in San Francisco's Union Square. ANALYSIS The simultaneous expansion of manufacturing capacity in Hayward and rider-facing space in San Francisco points to a company building both supply and demand sides of its robotaxi service in parallel.
Waymo, Zoox's chief rival in autonomous ride-hailing, recently leased 120,000 square feet of office space at One Market Plaza in San Francisco's Financial District. ◆ The competing real-estate buildouts in the same metro area underscore the Bay Area's role as the primary staging ground for the U.S. robotaxi industry.
