Alibaba Cloud officially launched Wan3.0 on August 24, a video-generation model capable of creating clips up to 30 seconds long and accepting document files — including DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF, and Markdown — as inputs1,4.

The model can also generate videos from spreadsheets, slides, and web pages2. Alibaba Cloud said it has continued to improve instruction following, consistency across shots, and audio quality since the model entered public beta.

Wan3.0 had been available in public beta since early August. Alibaba said the model has been used during the beta period in short drama and film production, advertising and marketing, tourism promotion, and music video creation, with the public beta version launching on August 6.

From August 24 to September 23, selected platforms will offer a temporary 30% discount on Wan3.0 API pricing.

The launch follows a reported $10 billion Alibaba share sale3.

ANALYSIS The document-input capability — accepting office files, PDFs, and Markdown directly — differentiates Wan3.0 from video-generation models that rely solely on text or image prompts. The month-long API discount signals a push to drive developer adoption during the model's initial commercial rollout. The range of use cases cited during the beta period — from short dramas to tourism promotion — positions Wan3.0 as a general-purpose commercial video tool rather than a research demonstration.
