Salesforce Embeds Full CRM Stack Inside Claude via Claudeforce Partnership

Salesforce and Anthropic on Tuesday announced Claudeforce, a partnership expansion that places Salesforce's CRM platform directly inside Claude, letting sellers query, update, and act on live CRM data without opening Salesforce's own interface1.

The centerpiece is Salesforce in Claude, a plugin for Anthropic's Claude CoWork that ships with 37 pre-built sales skills covering meeting preparation, deal health reviews, and pipeline analysis. The product is available to select pilot customers now, with an open beta planned for September and additional skills for service, marketing, and commerce beginning to launch in the third quarter.

Marc Benioff, Salesforce's chair and CEO, called the integration a union of the "world's #1 AI and #1 CRM," adding: "Here, the UI is the AI — allowing you to build custom apps dynamically and answer any enterprise question". Benioff and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei were scheduled to appear on television together Tuesday afternoon, hours before Salesforce reports quarterly earnings.

The technical architecture relies on Headless 360, a collection of APIs, MCP servers, and command-line tools that Salesforce released at its TDX developer conference in March. When a seller asks Claude to update a deal, Claude reasons over available skills, reads matching instructions, and executes against Salesforce's MCP server, inheriting the user's existing permissions. An administrator connects the plugin once, with authentication and permissions managed centrally.

The product's origin was internal: Anthropic's own workforce used Salesforce "pretty much exclusively through Claude and a series of skills and MCP servers," and the two companies decided to productize that setup as a CoWork plugin.

Beyond the CRM plugin, Tuesday's release makes Claude the default model across Slack. Claude now powers Slackbot, the Claude Tag feature Anthropic previewed in June, and the new Slack Code product. Salesforce says 83% of its workforce uses the Claude-powered Slackbot, claiming it saves 3.8 million productivity hours annually.

On the commercial side, Salesforce charges for the new usage through its headless consumption pricing, while customers separately contract with Anthropic for Claude inference. Salesforce distinguishes the plugin from Agentforce: Agentforce is designed for autonomous work or customer-facing tasks, while Salesforce in Claude targets sellers doing day-to-day work without navigating traditional user interfaces.

The partnership has deepened steadily. In October 2025, Reuters and CNBC reported that Salesforce was integrating both OpenAI and Anthropic into Agentforce and placing Agentforce inside ChatGPT. Bloomberg reported in June that Salesforce's investment in Anthropic was valued at roughly $5 billion. Separately, The Wall Street Journal reported that Anthropic is expanding its enterprise partner program amid IPO preparations.

In a demo, Salesforce VP of product management Shannon Mathews showed a seller asking Claude for a daily briefing on where to focus; the system returned a prioritized action plan flagging six closing opportunities with no next steps and surfaced a COO change at a key account pulled from the web.

ANALYSIS The move reframes the CRM interface question: rather than building AI features into Salesforce's own screens, Salesforce is ceding the interaction layer to Claude and monetizing the data and workflow layer underneath. The headless consumption pricing model and separate Anthropic inference contracts create a split revenue structure that preserves Salesforce's platform economics while routing the user experience through a third-party model provider.
