Agility Robotics on September 15, 2026, unveiled Digit 5, the fifth generation of its general-purpose humanoid robot, as the company prepares to go public through a proposed SPAC merger with Churchill Capital Corp. XI6,10. The deal values Agility at $2.5 billion, against $1.8 million in net sales reported for 2025.

The company said it has accumulated more than $300 million in multi-year customer orders as of May 2026, subject to satisfaction of certain contractual milestones7. "We built it to the exact requirements our customers gave us after three years of Digit 4 working on their production floors," said Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics.

AI-driven safety without barriers

Digit 5 is Agility's first humanoid engineered for cooperatively safe work at scale, designed to operate alongside people without the physical safety barriers required by traditional automation9. The robot continuously monitors for nearby humans using proprietary AI algorithms and multiple sensor technologies, responding by avoiding the person, stopping, or assuming a seated position. An independent safety controller supervises responses when someone is detected within an unsafe distance. Visual and auditory cues convey the robot's motion intent to alert nearby workers.

Agility said Digit previously became the first humanoid to pass an independent field evaluation on a customer production line for industrial safety standards administered by OSHA. The company is also the first launch partner for Nvidia Corp.'s Halos for Robotics platform, pairing its systems with NVIDIA IGX Thor and Halos Core infrastructure to accelerate safety certification.

Hardware and operational gains

Digit 5 stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 284 pounds, and can reach heights of up to 7.2 feet, up from Digit 4's 5.5 feet3. The robot can repeatedly lift loads up to 50 pounds, which Agility said delivers 40 percent more payload than its predecessor through a new leg design and proprietary cycloidal actuator technology11. A 90-minute runtime battery charges in 9 minutes, yielding a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio compared with Digit 4's 2:1, enabling more than 20 hours of productive work per day. Swappable end-effectors with ISO-standard mounting flanges allow tool changes for different tasks.

Digit 4 has logged more than 65,000 hours of operational time across customer sites in North America including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. At GXO's Flowery Branch facility near Atlanta, Digit 4 reached a cumulative 100,000-tote milestone while maintaining approximately 98 percent accuracy on-task.

Production, timeline, and international expansion

Digit is assembled at RoboFab, Agility's 70,000-square-foot facility in Salem, Oregon, which the company describes as the first factory purpose-built to assemble humanoid robots at scale. At full capacity, RoboFab is designed to produce up to 10,000 Digit robots per year and employ more than 500 people. A Fremont, California facility opened in July 2026 serves as the company's hardware and physical AI development hub.

Early access to Digit 5 is expected in the first half of 2027, with general availability for manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution operators by the end of 2027. Agility plans to make Digit available for commercial deployment outside North America for the first time, starting with the European Union and United Kingdom; Digit 5 is expected to carry a CE mark and additional regulatory marks.

ANALYSIS The $2.5 billion SPAC valuation against $1.8 million in 2025 net sales places the bet almost entirely on forward order conversion and production ramp, making the contractual-milestone caveat on the $300 million order book a material detail for prospective public-market investors.
